Album Review: Benjamin Stewart – Junkdrawers

Melbourne-based musician Benjamin Stewart is a talented singer, leading the band Slowly Slowly while also dabbling into his own solo projects. With his latest offering of Junkdrawers, this album explores themes of introspection and has Stewart reflect upon his life and its challenges.

“Goodbye My Valentine” opens the album to a heartbreaking number and notes of a breakdown of a relationship. It has blaring guitars at the beginning and builds up throughout the song which echos in the chorus.

“Life In The Creases” is a melancholic track that outlines the mundanity of life and has an acoustic edge to it.

“Don’t Pray In My Church” is another song that has great depth and simplicity in its guitars and the lyrics are filled with introspection.

Junkdrawers is an album that is soul-searching and quietly humble. It has an alternative rock depth to it with numbers that are deeply emotional and reflective. Benjamin Stewart is a visionary artist that writes from the heart and isn’t afraid to share his introverted mindset.
