Album Review: Hilary Duff – luck… or something

Pop sensation Hilary Duff is back with her latest album, luck… or something, and from start to finish, it plays like an open diary of her deepest fears and desires. The album features cohesive storytelling, with Duff opening up about her thoughts and feelings throughout different stages of her life.

“Weather For Tennis” is an engaging opening track with a catchy chorus and bright, guitar-driven production.

“Future Tripping” sounds very Sabrina Carpenter–esque, and it’s a lush pop song that embodies an infectious melody. The track explores the anxiety of worrying about things that haven’t happened yet, giving us a glimpse into Duff’s thoughts and feelings about the future.

“Growing Up” is a sentimental track layered with nostalgia, and its chorus resembles blink-182’s “Dammit.” The song reflects on maturity and coming to terms with the reality that you can’t always depend on your blood family to be there for you.

“Mature” tackles underage relationships, with Duff seemingly calling out an ex from a previous relationship for dating younger. It’s a catchy number that doesn’t miss a beat.

Overall, luck… or something highlights maturity and life in its entirety. Duff has poured her heart and soul into this record, creating something deeply personal that reveals a sentimental side while blossoming into an album filled with nostalgia and inventiveness.
